1)A and B: 원칙적으로 복수 동사
My sister and I are twins.
예외)A and B를 단수동사로 받는 경우
(1)한가지 물품: bread and butter(버터바른 빵),
curry and rice(카레라이스), watch and chain(줄달린 시계)
(2)동일인
The great critic and poet(위대한 비평가 겸 시인) is lecturing
on philosophy.
비교)The great critic and the poet(위대한 비평가와 시인) are
traveling together.
(3)every, each, no로 수식 받을 때
Every desk and chair has to be repaired.
2)B에 일치시키는 경우
A or B(A 혹은 B)
either A or B(둘 중 하나)
neither A nor B(둘 중 어느 것도 아닌)
not A but B(A가 아니고 B인)
not only A but also B=B as well as A(A 뿐만 아니라 B도)
B with A(A와 함께 B가)

3)단수형 주어-->복수형 동사
(1)단수명사가 개개의 구성원을 의미
His family( The members of his family) are all well.
비교)His family(하나의 집합체) is a small one.
(2)<the+형용사>가 사람을 나타내는 복수명사일 때
The rich(Rich people) are not always happy.
4)복수형 주어-->단수형 동사
(1)시간, 거리, 금액, 중량의 단위를 나타내는 복수명사
Six months was too short for the task.
비교)Six months have passed since he died.
(시간의 경과는 복수 동사)
(2)-ics로 끝나는 학과명, 병명, 놀이명, 국명
politics(정치학), ethics(윤리학), mathematics(수학), economics

5)most, half, part, the rest, 분수 등의 부분사: of 뒤의 명사에 일치

6)a number of + 복수명사: 복수형동사

A number of people were dead.
The number of cars is increasing.
7)many a + 단수명사: 단수형동사
=a large number of +단.명: 단수형동사
Many a car is parked here.
=Many cars are parked here.
8)neither(either) of+ 복.명: 단수동사
Neither of the books is interesting.
9)관.대와 동사의 일치: 주격 관.대절의 동사는 선행사의 수, 인친에
일치
